Biography

Maria Schellenberg (formerly Maria Ostroukhova) is a London-based mezzo-soprano recognised for her distinctive timbre, elegant phrasing, and emotionally vivid stage presence. Her repertoire spans Baroque, Rossini, French lyric-dramatic repertoire, concert works, and 20th-century music, with a particular interest in psychologically nuanced and interdisciplinary performance.

Recent and forthcoming engagements include work with the Royal Ballet and Opera, Opera2Day, Chelsea Opera Group, Dorset Opera Festival, Danish National Orchestra, Oxford Philharmonic Orchestra among others. She has collaborated with conductors including Sir Antonio Pappano and Vladimir Jurowski, and has appeared at venues including the Royal Festival Hall and Queen Elizabeth Hall.

Maria is a graduate of the Royal College of Music and a prizewinner of the London Handel Competition. Alongside her operatic work, she develops original interdisciplinary projects combining music, theatre, literature, and visual art.
